news 4, megan mcgrath. back to you. >> and we have meteorologist tom kierein with your weather alert. how much can we expect? >>> we could get an inch or two inches. but the main threat is going to be severe weather. right now the heaviest rains out of the mountains. locally near washington, we have just a cloudy sky. there are a few sprinkles far north and west of us. frederick county, loudoun, panhandle of west virginia and out into west virginia. some moderate showers now. this whole zone in yellow, this is the severe risk zone. we're right in the middle of it. 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. looks like the primetime risk of damaging winds. gusts over 60 miles an hour could bring down tree limbs and power lines. we have temperatures muggy and near 70 degrees. hour by hour throughout the day, we'll stay cloudy through much of the morning. by noontime, some showers moving in, mid-70s. then strong storms after that, 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. keep you posted all morning long and into the afternoon. first 4 traffic now with danell

news 4's megan mcgrath is live with more. looks like mei xiang is protecting her cub, megan. >> reporter: absolutely. all indications are she's doing a great job. she blt the nest inside and is nestled with her newborn cub. one glimpse, one glimpse only. she's kind of keeping tabs on her little guy at this point. i'm joined by dr. suzanne murray. she's chief veterinarian here. talk about how this came about. she's had false pregnancies before. there was concern this might be another false alarm. >> exactly. she has had false pregnancies. it's so difficult to determine whether she's pregnant or not because she doesn't always feel like having ultrasound exams. during most of her pregnancy, early on, she loves the ultrasound exam, when we can't see anything. but those last two weeks, when we can really see a developing cub, she has no interest. it was a little surprise we got this evening. >> so you guys were watching, and all of a sudden, you heard the sounds of a cub. >> exactly. and the sound of a cub is the important thing.

that's where megan mcgrath is now. how are they preparing, megan? >> reporter: tom, folks on edge. some folks in this neighborhood, the bloomingdale neighborhood, they've been flooded four times this summer. as you've been saying all morning long, there's the possibility of severe downpours, possibly an inch, maybe two inches in some spots. they've got some signs out watch for standing water. some of the flooding conditions we've seen in rhode island avenue, just horrible with water gushing down the streets. some people having the water gush into their basements, up out of drains, just a real mess here. they're hopeful it's not going to happen again tonight. they aren't so sure. they've had such a problem as of late. they're not sure why it has started to become such a problem. we are expecting downpours later on this afternoon. certainly some nerves here in the bloomingdale neighborhood. we have seen light rain here around the area, which could be having an impact around traffic this morning. for more on that, we'll go to danella sealock now. danella, how's it looking? >> rain has
